Actor Moriyama Mirai (28) is going to soon make his voice acting debut, taking on the role of Jesus for the animated film version of Nakamura Hikaru‘s comedy manga “Saint Young Men.” It will also be the first anime voice role for actor Hoshino Gen (31), also known as the leader of the band SAKEROCK, who will play opposite Moriyama’s Jesus as Buddha.

“Saint Young Men” is a slice-of-life comedy about Jesus Christ and Gautama Buddha, who live together as roommates in Tokyo while taking a vacation on Earth. The story follows their adventures as they experience modern Japanese society. This is not the first unusual comedy manga by Nakamura; she also wrote “Arakawa Under the Bridge.”

“Saint Young Men” has already had more than 8 million copies published over 7 volumes so far. The 8th volume will be released on December 3rd.

The movie’s release date is scheduled for spring 2013.
