D'espairsRay is a visual kei band formed in 1999 by HIZUMI (ex-Le'veil), Karyu (ex-Diur Mind), ZERO and TSUKASA (ex-Le'veil). They have a darker apperance than most of other Japanese visual bands, and also different music style which is mix of American nu-metal and industrial metal. D'espairsRay have never changed their lineup throughout their career, and for the most part have kept true to their visual roots. D'espairsRay was one of the first and few Japanese rock bands to venture overseas to America.

Although they have been consistantly heavy metal, more recently their material has become lighter and more varied. The group, however disbanded on June 15th 2011 after 6 months of indefinite hiatus due to the problem of HIZUMI's vocal chords.
