"If you stumble upon something, hesitate, and stop, it's okay to go to where you feel at home and cry or get angry. When all is said & done you & you alone have the answer of what to do then. But in those times, I personally try to give myself a boost. In the case of 'Depend on you,' I wondered, 'Am I now assigning a little bit of that strength to myself?,' and that's what I wrote about.

WHATEVER (1999)

Depend on you is Hamasaki Ayumi's fifth single under the avex trax label. The single and its b-side, "Two of us" serve as the opening and ending themes (respectively) for the Playstation RPG "Thousand Arms."

Comments from Ayu on the lyrics:

"'Depend on you' is the first single where I put actual question marks (?) in the lyrics."

"If I were to ask 'What is the #1 thing I would change about this year?' it would be getting used to people so I'd be able to trust them. Thinking about it that way, I thought I would be able to eventually trust myself too. Because if you can't trust yourself, you can't ever trust other people, right?"

The single reached #6 on Oricon charts and stayed on the charts for a total of nine weeks. During its first week the single sold 36,840 copies, since then the single has sold a total of 131,460 copies.
