So Nyuh Shi Dae, or Girls' Generation, were so named for the ambition that the group will take over the music world in Asia. To further this goal, the group consists of members who speak English, Japanese, and Chinese in addition to Korean. Many of the girls have had prior experience in the entertainment world as actresses, VJs, singers, and models.

The group's debut single, "Into the New World", was released on August 2, 2007. Their single consist of three tracks and one instrumental. Their second track "Beginning" was a remake of the "2 blocks down" by the popular Swedish girl group Play. Their debut performance on SBS's Inki Gayo aired three days later on August 5. A reality show called "MNet Girls Go To School" was filmed during their debut days. In late 2007 the group released the album Girls' Generation and promoted the title track during the rest of the year. They went to 2007 MKMF, and won MNet's award for newcomer group.

Starting early 2008 the group started to promote Kissing You, releasing a music video for the song, which featured Super Junior's Dong Hae. They released repackaged version of their first album in March, and promotions for Baby Baby started, and lasted until the end of April. In January 2009 the group released their first mini album "Gee", and the title track was a hit, it topped most online music charts right after it was released, and it was popular even in Thailand. Promotions for Gee stopped on the end of March. They digitally released the song "HaHaHa", which was used as a Samsung campaign song, to encourage people on the times of hard economy. The girls shortly starred on the show "Horror Factory" (cancelled). The group soon started to star in a KBS new show, called "Hello Baby", on which the girls take care of a baby called Kyung San. After a short break, the group returned to the music scene with the mini album Tell Me Your Wish (Genie). Promotions started on June and ended in August. On August, a news magazine called "Shisa Journal" did a survey of "The people who move Korea", where experts and professionals from academia, media, politics, art and religion were phone interviewed, and Girls' Generation was ranked #6, amongst big names like Rain, Yoo Jae Suk, Kang Ho Dong, Bae Yong Joon, An Sung Gi (Korea's #1 movie actor of all time), Jo Yong Pil (Korea's #1 musician of all time), Choi Bool Am (Korea's #1 tv actor of all time), Park Jin Young and Kim Hye Ja. Girls' Generation digitally released the song "Chocolate Love (Retro Pop Version)" in October, and the song was used as a promotion song for the LG Cyon Chocolate cellphone, although it wasn't promoted on any music shows or radio programs, it reached #2 in the music chart Melon.
