My First Karie is the first mini-album recorded by Kahimi Karie. It is Kahimi's first release under Polystar's Trattoria Shibuya-Kei sub-label. My First Karie was produced by Kahimi's then boyfriend Oyamada Keigo. It is made up of two French songs and four songs in English. The EP was released on the same day as the Momus produced mini-album I am a kitten. The album art and even most of the songs were later used on the 1998 US release of Kahimi Karie by Minty Fresh.
The mini album reached #14 on the weekly Oricon chart, making her debut ranking. It continued to chart for a total of ten weeks. This is Kahimi's second best selling album (including all mini-albums and full length LPs).
Album sessions
Momus reviled that the recording for this record was incredibly harsh on Kahimi. At the time she had recently moved to Paris, France, causing a split with Oyamada Keigo; the two of them were still trying to work out the relationship and Oyamada had gone out to see Kahimi several times. She was pressured to fly back to Japan and record at CORNELIUS studio at the 3D Studios headquarters since it would be her first release with her new label; at this time 3D was paying for Kahimi's life in Paris. On top of everything else Bertrand Burgalat became a real beast during the recording session, "slamming doors and piano lids, and [leaving] Kahimi in tears." She never worked with this production team again.[1]
