SCREW (often incorrectly spelled as ScReW because of their logo) is a five member Japanese rock band formed in Tokyo by their vocalist, Byo (ex-JOKER). They are a visual-kei group currently signed to and managed by Indie PSC., a sub-label of PS COMPANY. SCREW was originally a quartet; Manabu (ex-SHINTOKUmaru) joined the band as their second guitarist in June of 2007.

Soon after the release of their second studio album X-RAYS, it was announced that Yuuto would depart after their live at Takadanobaba AREA on December 31st, 2009. In two months time, Rui (ex-Jewel) became SCREW's bassist. Their eighth single "Cursed Hurricane" is the first release with the current line-up. They disbanded on November 1st, 2016.

Biography

2006-2007

SCREW was formed sometime before March of 2006 by Byo (ex-JOKER). The line-up was Byo on vocals, Kazuki (ex-Clover) on guitar, Yuuto (ex-gossip) on bass, and Jin (ex-LiViNG DEAD) on drums. During this time the band signed with indies label SPEED DISK. Their first live would be on March 4th at Takadanobaba AREA as a secret live. There would only be seven more secret lives, spread out in March and April, until their first one-man concert titled Homura e no Kakusei on April 23rd at Takadanobaba AREA. At this live advanced copies of SCREW's debut single "Nejireta Shisou" was sold and "Ookina Furudokei PUNK SCREW ver." was distributed.

In May there were three events, all at Shibuya O-WEST, that were collectively called "SCREW vs WEST" and labeled the "Preliminary", "Semifinals", and "Finals" stages. The preliminary stage was the "Shinrabanshow Kakuritsu Hendou" event presented by SPEED DISK on the 16th. The 24th was the date of the regular release of their debut single. It reached #192 on the major Oricon weekly charts where it charted for a week. The day after was the semifinals stage, it was the event sponsored by Kazoku on the 25th. The finales stage was the "Boys Evolution" event presented by LOOP ASH RECORDS and Kamikaze Boyz on 29th.

In June SCREW participated in four dates of the Ruvie sponored event tour titled Kyuukoku Shikakutei ~Ultimate Square~. Their part in the tour started at Takadanobaba AREA on the 4th and ended at Shibuya O-WEST on the 19th. A second pressing of their debut single "Nejireta Shisou" was released on the 21st since the first pressing was limited to only 1,000 copies and had sold-out. the month was finished with a live on the 24th at ESAKA MUSE.

July started with their first sponsored live called "Chikichiki Muramura Shichaeba Iijanai?" at Takadanobaba AREA on the 2nd. They then played in three lives in the SPEED DISK organised tour titled Shinrabanshow TOUR '06 #2. Their part was at Shibuya O-EAST on the 11th, Sendai JUNK BOX on the 18th, and at Sapporo KRAPS HALL the 20th. SCREW released their first mini-album Nanairo no Reienka on the 12th and hald also performed a live that day at Takadanobaba AREA. This reached #299 on the major Oricon weekly charts where it charted for a week.

On August 2nd the band were one of many to take part in the mega-event "SCUBER DIVE ~Shibuya ga Taihen~" at various Shibuya venues, SCREW played at Shibuya O-Crest. They held their second one-man live, called Rakumei Kashiri Seion, at Shibuya O-WEST on the 17th. It was at this concert that "Nakushita Aoi Nami" was distrubuted. From August 21st to October 8th they played a string of four lives, beginning Nagoya E.L.L and concluding at Takadanobaba AREA.

In October there was a three-man TouNaKa (東名阪; Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka) based tour titled THE SCREAMING GROUND with Sadie and lynch.. The dates were at Shibuya O-WEST on the 1st, Nagoya HEART LAND on the 17th, and OSAKA MUSE on the 29th. Two things happened on the 21st, a live at Takadanobaba AREA, and the release of their second single "Sakuran SCREAM" (Liberation.I) on the 25th. The single is the first in a three consecutive month single release plan called the "Maxi Single Liberation" series. It reached #140 on the major Oricon weekly charts, where it charted for a week. Rounding off the month was their part in the "LOVE&PEACE&ROCK'N ROLL Vol.1" event at OSAKA MUSE on the 29th, it was also used as their second single's release event.

After two "Shinrabanshow" lives presented by SPEED DISK, one on November 2nd at Shinsaibashi FANJ-twice and the other the next day at Nagoya E.L.L, SCREW held a release event for their third single (which would be released later on in the month). Similar to the last one, this was their part in the "LOVE&PEACE&ROCK'N ROLL Vol.2" event at Takadanobaba AREA on the 16th. The second part of the single plan, their third single "HEARTLESS SCREEN" (Liberation.II), was released on the 22nd. This reached #169 on the major Oricon weekly charts, where it charted for a week.

SCREW were one of the acts in RENTRER EN SOI sponored events titled "MIDNIGHT CELEBRATION" during the end of November. The band took part in three of the events, they were: at HOLIDAY OSAKA on the 25th, HOLIDAY NAGOYA the next day, and Takadanobaba AREA on the 30th. Preceding the last single in the plan and it release event, they played two lives; the first at Takadanobaba AREA on December 5th, and the second at Y2K ROPPONGI on the 10th.

Like the situation around the last two singles, the release event for their fourth single was a part of the "LOVE&PEACE&ROCK'N ROLL Vol.3" event at Takadanobaba AREA on December 15th. The last of the "Maxi Single Liberation" series, their fourth single "FINALE OF SCREW" (Liberation.III), was released on the 20th. This would be their last single released through SPEED DISK. It reached #149 on the major Oricon weekly charts, where it charted for a week. Ending off the year was three events, stretching from December 25th to the 31st. The ones of note are the two newyear events held on the 31st: one is the "FINAL 2006" event at Takadanobaba AREA and the other is the "stylish wave COUNT DOWN '06-'07" event at Yokohama Akarenga Souko 1-goukan 3F Hall.

2007 started with their part in SectMa's first sponorsed event called "Akai Orchestra -sect.1-" on January 9th at Shibuya O-WEST. SCREW had their first overseas performance in South Korea at Seoul's Rolling Hall for SPEED DISK's "Shinrabanshow in Korea" event on the 12th and 13th. On the 25th, to commemorate the release of their Liberation singles, the band held an event titled "-Violet junkie movie show-" at Shibuya O-WEST. They then participated in half of E.L.L SPEED DISK's "Shinrabanshow in MID SIDE 4days" events on February 5th and 6th at Nagoya E.L.L. The band had a special live called SCREW-BYO209BD at Meguro Rockmaykan on the 9th; it was a solo performance by Byo limited to 209 fans.

SCREW and Viored had a versus live, "Tokyo Boudou ~ Gokusai Senshoku Shisou", at Takadanobaba AREA on February 17th. Concluding the month was two lives and an event, the lives being: one on the 27th at Nagoya HEART LAND, and the other a part of the h'evn organised live "h'evn no Omatsuri★Tenmade Tobou!! ~TouNaKa TOUR Bangaihen~" at Osaka SHANGRILA on the 28th. The event was Serial⇔NUMBER's first sponsored event "Ichariba Chodee Vol. 01" at Shibuya O-WEST on the 21st.

Promoting the release of their debut album, which was to be released later on in March, started with a live at Takadanobaba AREA on March 3rd. SCREW's debut album Fusion of the core was released on the 14th in two different versions, and it's their first release to be in more than one version and to include a DVD. The album reached #160 on the major Oricon charts, where it charted for a week. Continuing the promotion, they had a tour titled LIMITED FUSION which was made up of the band's performances in two different tours (Shinrabanshow TOUR '07 and stylish wave CIRCUIT '07 Haru no Arashi). The tour started on March 12th at Takadanobaba AREA and ended on April 18th at Nagoya E.L.L, with the finale "Emission of the core" at Shibuya QUATTRO on April 26th. With the tour over, SCREW left SPEED DISK and joined PS COMPANY's independent division Indie-PSC..

The band's first activity with the new label started in May with three lives/events: number one was another "Shinrabanshow" event presented by SPEED DISK on the 12th at Nagano JUNK BOX, number two was a "h'evn no Omatsuri★Tenmade Tobou!!" live organised by the magazine h'evn on the 15th at Shibuya O-EAST, and number three was the "Visual binary vol.13 "Perfectly fine tomorrow"" event presented by Visualive on the 27th at Takadanobaba AREA. Their last live as a four member band was on June 1st at Zepp Tokyo, as Manabu (ex-SHINTOKU Maru) joined on the 23rd. Finishing off June was a SCREW sponsored event called Unknown shudder... at Takadanobaba AREA on the 29th.

What then followed was a string of lives during July and three events in August. The lives spanned from July 18th at Sendai JUNK BOX to the 31st at Osaka BIG CAT, altogether hitting seven stops. On August 5th they took part in the "stylish wave '07 MAX FINAL Tsuika Kouen" finale event at Kawasaki CITTA', on the 12th they were the "Shikkoku no Symphony" event at Saitama Kaikan, and the last August event was on the 31st for the "Otsukare Summer" event at Takadanobaba AREA.

SCREW's first release with PS COMPANY's Indie-PSC. and as a five piece act was their second mini-album VENOM, which was released on September 12th. It was the first entry in atwo consecutive month mini-album release campaign. This reached #113 on the major Oricon charts, where it charted for a week. A one-man concert titled OUTFLOW OF VENOM was meant to promote and support the mini-album was performed on September 17th at Takadanobaba AREA. Completing September was a live on the 28th at Shibuya O-EAST.

The last entry of the release plan was their third mini-album VIRUS, which was released on October 3rd. It would reach #139 on the major Oricon charts, where it charted for a week. Unlike the last mini-album, this one didn't get a one-man concert to commemorate the release. For the rest of October SCREW was one of the band's on the h'evn Soukan 5-shuunen Kinen Zenkoku TOUR ~Dai2dan~ tour (organised by h'evn). The nine date tour started on the 10th at Nagoya HEART LAND and ended on the 31st at Shinjuku LOFT.

During the tail-end of the year, during November and December, they participated in five lives and events. The first activity was the "Absolute Domain vol.1" event at Nagoya E.L.L on November 2nd with the second being their own Unknown shudder... vol.2 sponsored event at Takadanobaba AREA on the 25th, effectively ending the month. In December SCREW performed two dates in the Shinrabanshow TOUR '07 #3 tour: Osaka BIG CAT on the 8th and Shibuya O-EAST on the 22nd. The last activity of 2007 was their part in the "J-ROCK INVATION -EPISODE I-" event at Palladium in Cologne, Germany on the 29th. On September 2nd, 2014, Rui announced that he would retire from music activies alltogether on December 28, 2014. Following so, he would devote his time to his passion for fashion design.
