Utada herself is quoted to have said that this song is about expressing that "Love is like a mix of extremes; anxiety and peace."
On December 20th, 2006 iTunes Japan released a list of top downloaded singles and albums; This Is Love ranked at #9 making it the 9th most downloaded song for 2006.
This Is Love was also used as the opening theme for the anime Freedom Project.
Disambiguation
There are two versions of This Is Love to be found in Utada's discography (listed chronologically). These different versions are:
- This Is Love
- Found on ULTRA BLUE album as track #1. It was used as a radio single to promote the album (much like Play Ball and Parody before it). It was able to be purchased online from May 31, 2006 onwards (prior to the release date of ULTRA BLUE).
- This Is Love (Utada United Live)
- Found on UTADA UNITED 2006 DVD as track #3. This was used as one of the three songs to promote the DVD's release over airways and on music video channels.
