Asaoka Megumi

Asaoka Megumi (麻丘めぐみ) is a Japanese pop singer, actress, and a theatre director.

Asaoka Megumi started in the show business when she was only two years old, starring in a yogurt commercial. When she was in middle school, she served as a model for the magazine Shuukan Seventeen. And then in 1972, she finally debuted her singing career with the single "Mebae". The single was so successful that earned Asaoka the Rookie of the Year award at the 14th Annual Japan Record Taishou.

Her next hit was "Watashi no Kare wa Hidari Kiki" in 1973. She earned the General Public award at the 15th Annual Japan Record Awards and garnered her first appearance on the end of the year program Kouhaku Utagassen. She later took a break from show business when she married promotion director Watanabe Mitsuo in 1977 and had the couple only daughter two years later. But, she later divorced her husband in 1983 and Asaoka decided to comeback to the world of show business.
