CHA-CHA was Japanese pop and variety idol group from 1988 to 1991 and then from 2006 to 2008.

Information

CHA-CHA was formed in part due to the television variety show Kin Kira Rin 530!! wanted to start their own boyband to be a "disruption corps" for the other boybands, especially Johnny's. They held auditions and picked Hino Tamao, Matsubara Momotaro, and Suma Kazuya to be the first generation in 1987. But, Hino and Suma graduated from the group before their main debut, making the television program chose Katsumata Kunikazu, Kino Masato, Nishio Takumi, Nakamura Nobutoshi, and Kimura Takuya as the second generation.

Soon after, the new group took lessons and debuted on the show soon after. But, Kimura was the first to be cut from the group as he later become one of the leading faces of the boyband SMAP. The rest of the members continued until 1988 when Hino, Katsumura, Nishio, Matsubara, and Suma formed the group. But soon after. Hino and Suma was replaced by Nakamura and Kino.

CHA-CHA soon made their musical debut in 1988 when the single "Beginning". Kino later left the group after a while and went into retirement. Then in 1992, the group broke up after their last concert at Shibuya Town Hall with a former member. Kino. as the guest.

In 2006, the group reunited with Katsumata Kunikazu as the leader and four new members as CHA-CHA 2008.
