Igarashi Kohta (五十嵐公太) is a Japanese rock musician. He made his debut in 1987 as a member of rock band T.V. He rose to fame in the 1990s as a member of JUDY AND MARY.

Informations

Igarashi Kohta started his musical career in 1987 when he joined the rock band T.V. His first appearance was on their mini-album, Topping Voice, which was produced by CHAR. He stayed with the band for two years until they disbanded in 1989. Not much was seen of Igarashi for the next couple of years. He ended up playing on the THE HEART's fourth studio album Acacia and on GERARD's RONY OF FATE in 1991.

In 1992, Igarashi joined the band JUDY AND MARY alongside former PRESENCE bassist Onda Yoshihito, and newcomer vocalist YUKI. He joined right when the band signed with the indie label Chainsaw Records. After the release of their indie mini-album, BE AMBITIOUS, they band was able to get a record deal with Sony Music Entertainment. When they went major they got a new guitarist Asanuma Takuya, whom is better known as TAKUYA. At the start of the band Onda composed almost all of the music, while YUKI wrote all the lyrics. As time moved on TAKUYA started composing more of the music, as well as writing more of the lyrics. Starting on the band's third studio album, MIRACLE DIVING, Igarashi started composing some of the band's songs.

He ended up composing on of the band's best selling singles, 1998's "Sampomichi". The single reached #3 on the Oricon, and sold around 479,140 copies. The song was so popular it got the band invited to play at Kohaku Uta Gassen for the second time. Not long after that the band was plagued with a series of hiatus' and eventual in 2001 they called it quits.

In 2003, Igarashi joined the band naja. The group consisted of former RAZZ MA TAZZ guitarist Yokoyama Tatsurou and newcomer YURI. The band was short lived and disbanded after the release of three singles and an album.

In recent years, Igarashi has become more active. In 2007 he joined the band ATOMIC POODLE and in 2008 he joined ZAMZA N'BANSHEE (as of 2009 are just known as ZAMZA) alongside former JUDY AND MARY band mate Onda Yoshihito. He also reunited with TAKUYA in 2007 when he worked as a studio drummer on Takahashi Hitomi's "Candy Line", which was produced by TAKUYA. Igarashi has also worked as a studio and support musician for artists such as GACKT and Otsuka Ai. He is also a support drummer for ORANGE RANGE.
