Nakamura Yuma got her start in the world of show business when she won the comic book Weekly Shonen Jump Grand Prix award and joined the agency Hori Pro. Her popularity rose when she was cast as one of the Kazama sisters in the television dorama Sukeban III in 1986. A year later, she debuted her singing career with the single "Dilemma". Nakamura started to write and produce her own music material, especially her 1990 album Hold Out!.

In 1990s, Nakamura continued to act in many doramas, many as original videos. In 1998, she got married to actor Maeda Kouyou but didn't stop to retire. She went onto to former a band named GODDESS two years later and released two albums before it broke up in 2001. Also in 2001, she released her only nude photobook "L.A.X.".

She got divorced to Maeda Kouyou in 2003 for unknown reasons. In 2005, she traveled to Los Angeles, California to study abroad to learn English. There, she married an American lawyer in 2006 and gave birth to their first kid.
