Tokyo Mew Mew by Yoshida Reiko and Ikumi Mia

Tokyo Mew Mew (東京ミュウミュウ) is a shojo manga written by Yoshida Reiko and illustrated by Ikumi Mia. The series ran in Nakayoshi magazine from 2000 to 2003, spanning seven volumes and twenty-nine chapters. An English-language version was licensed by Tokyopop and the first volume was released in 2003.

The series was adapted into an anime by Studio Pierrot and aired fifty-two episodes from 2002 to 2003. The anime was licensed by 4Kids TV and the result was twenty-three episodes dubbed into English under the name Mew Mew Power, which was cancelled in 2006.

Synopsis

When Momomiya Ichigo was on a date with her crush, Aoyama Masaya, an earthquake hits and Ichigo is suddenly embraced in light. After encountering an Iriomote Wildcat and merging with it, Ichigo later learns that her human DNA was fused with that of the cat's, and as a result, can transform into a Mew Mew, a heroine destined to protect the Earth. Soon, she finds her four teammates - Mint, Lettuce, Pudding, and Zakuro - who also bear powers with that of other endangered animal species, and the team of five must now defeat the aliens who are trying to attack the planet!
