Biography

meg promoting LUCK & PLUCK (2009)

meg was born as Kobayashi Megumi in Yokohama on April 24th, 1977. She aimed to become a singer since childhood, as singing was her favorite hobby. When an acquaintance recommended Ella Fitzgerald's cover of Cole Porter's 1932 song "Night And Day" to her, meg immediately took an interest in jazz music. She began to take lessons under the wing of Maruyama Shigeo, and her vocal ability and power of expression improved greatly. meg began performing in districts of Tokyo, like Ginza and Shibuya, and gained herself a fanbase from her outgoing character and fashionable performances.

To kickstart her jazz career she first chose the moniker meg. The second step was that her cover of the song "Where I Want To Be" was used as a Yakult Beautiens commercial theme song in April of 2006. The third was meg's 'debut' album Grace, which was released later on in that year in November. meg had worked with arrangers Moriya Junko and Miki Toshio to further develop her big band sound.
