Billboard Japan Music Awards: EXILE voted as top artist for 2nd consecutive year


The 2nd annual Billboard Japan Music Awards were held on Sunday in Tokyo Midtown. Like last year, the Artist of the Year award was decided by public voting on the internet and through mobile phones, and for the second time in a row, EXILE received the award.

Besides Artist of the Year, the main awards announced at the ceremony were:

  • Top Pop Artists: AKB48, EXILE, Nana Mizuki, SID, Kana Nishino
  • Jazz Artist of the Year: JAM
  • Classical Artist of the Year: Nodame Cantabile
  • Independent Artist of the Year: HY
  • New Artist of the Year: TEE
  • Korea Billboard Special Award: 4Minute
  • International Collaboration Special Award: Chaka Khan x AI
  • Daiwa House Special Award: HY

The chart awards, which were already announced in advance, went to:

  • Hot 100 of the Year: Troublemaker – Arashi
  • Billboard 200 Album of the Year: Aisubeki Mirai e – EXILE
  • Hot 100 Airplay of the Year: Fireflies – Owl City
  • Hot 100 Singles Sales of the Year: Troublemaker – Arashi
  • Adult Contemporary of the Year: Misery – Maroon 5
  • Jazz Album of the Year: The Fall – Norah Jones
  • Classical Album of the Year: Nodame Cantabile Saishu Gakusho – Nodame Cantabile
  • Overseas Soundtrack of the Year: Michael Jackson’s This Is It – Michael Jackson
  • Independent of the Year: My Soul, Your Beats! – Lia / Brave Song – Aoi Tada
