“Kitsutsuki to Ame” wins Jury Prize at TIFF


The awards ceremony for the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival was held on Sunday in Roppongi. This year, French director Eric Toledano’s “Untouchable” took home the Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix, as well as the award for Best Actor. Meanwhile, Okita Shuichi’s “Kitsutsuki to Ame” (“The Woodsman and the Rain”), starring Yakusho Koji and Oguri Shun, received the Special Jury Prize.

This is the second year in a row that a Japanese film has won the Special Jury Prize, after Shindo Kaneto’s “Ichimai no Hagaki” in 2010.

The winners were:

  • Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix: “Untouchable” – Eric Toledano
  • Special Jury Prize: “Kitsutsuki to Ame” – Okita Shuichi
  • Audience Award: “When Pigs Have Wings” – Sylvain Estibal
  • Best Director: Ruben Ostlund – “Play”
  • Best Actress: Glenn Close – “Albert Nobbs”
  • Best Actor: Francois Cluzet, Omar Sy – “Untouchable”
  • Best Artistic Contribution: Du Jiayi – “Kora” /┬áTony Kaye – “Detachment”
  • Toyota Earth Grand Prix: “The Mirror Never Lies” – Kamila Andini
  • Toyota Earth Grand Prix Special Jury Prize: “Happy People: A Year in the Taiga” – Werner Herzog, Dmitry Vasyukov

In the Winds of Asia-Middle East program, Filipino director Jeffrey Jeturian took the prize for Best Asian-Middle Eastern Film.

  • Best Asian-Middle Eastern Film: “Trespassers” – Jeffrey Jeturian
  • Special Mention: “The Mirror Never Lies” – Kamila Andini
  • Special Mention: “TATSUMI” – Eric Khoo
  • Special Mention: “The Robot” – S. Shankar

In the Japanese Eyes program, the Best Picture Award went to Kobayashi Keiichi’s “Momoiro Sora wo” (“About the Pink Sky”).
