Actors Sakai Masato (38) and Yamada Takayuki (28) will co-star together for the first time in a movie titled “Sono Yoru no Samurai.” The movie is an adaptation of the play of the same name, performed in 2007 by popular theatrical troupe The Shampoo Hat. Akahori Masaaki (40), who leads the troupe and starred in the stage version of “Sono Yoru no Samurai,” will direct the film.
The story revolves around two characters, Nakamura Kenichi (Sakai) and Kijima (Yamada). Nakamura runs a small ironworks, but ever since losing his beloved wife Hisako (Sakai Maki) in a hit-and-run accident 5 years earlier, he has spent his days with little energy towards his work. Kijima, on the other hand, is the culprit in that hit-and-run accident, who has been released from prison after serving his sentence. However, Nakamura is intent on getting revenge against Kijima, and the two finally come face to face on the night of Hisako’s death anniversary.
The movie was filmed in the Kanto area during September and October of last year, and post-production is expected to finish in March. Theatrical release is scheduled for fall 2012.
