Pre-Debut
In 2018, seven years following YG Entertainment's last girl group, speculation started spreading about the label's next girl group. In 2020, the names BABYMONSTER and BAEMON were both trademarked in English and Korean by the label. The group's selection process was chronicled in Last Evaluation, a reality show filmed a year prior to its airing, showcasing seven potential members. In its final episode, YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun Suk revealed the number of members he first planned for the group's creation in its earliest stages was five; however, a seven-piece ensemble was finalized with three South Koreans (Ahyeon, Haram, Rora), two Japanese (Ruka, Asa), and two Thai members (Pharita, Chiquita). BABYMONSTER's YouTube channel soon surpassed one million subscribers in 52 days since its creation on December 28, 2022, and two million subscribers in 129 days, becoming the fastest K-pop girl group to reach the milestone.
On May 12, 2023, one day after the members were confirmed, it was announced that the girls would release a pre-debut song titled "DREAM" on YouTube on May 14th.
