9GOATS BLACK OUT is an indies alternative Japanese rock band in the visual-kei scene. They formed near the end of 2007 as a trio, and use support musicians. More than two years after their formation, 9GOATS BLACK OUT released their debut album TANATOS on March 24th, 2010.

A month after its release it was announced that starting after their live on May 7th they would go into an activity pause, with their support drummer aki soon departing from the group.[1] The hiatus would only last eight months, as in October the band revealed that they will be coming back in January with a tour titled Melancholy pool.[2]

Biography

2007~2009

9GOATS BLACK OUT was formed near the end of 2007 by ryo (ex-GULLET) with utA and hati, both ex-Rayarch. The band doesn't have an official drummer but used aki (also ex-GULLET) as their drummer, along with akaya for the role of manipulator/programming/keyboards, as another support member. On December 24th they joined independent label dalli and opened their official website.

Starting on January 25th, 2008 9GBO released their debut mini-album devils in bedside through pre-sale on their official website. It sold-out through pre-orders some time before its release, so on February 12th the band release the second pressing of the mini-album through the website.

In the meantime they filmed their first PV for their song "sink", from their debut mini-album. They made two versions, one short (for demonstration purposes) and the long standard one. The music videos were released in select stores alongside the release of the regular pressing of devils in bedside on April 30th. The PVs are now available on the band's website.

9GBO held their first live as a secret event at Meguro Rockmaykan on June 20th. This soon led into their first tour Live in Beauty in Tokyo during August 18th to 31st. The tour was to support and promote the release of their debut single, "Sleeping Beauty", on September 9th. The single reached #161 on the Oricon weekly charts, where it charted for a week.

The year's end for the band was made up of lives. They participated in the Shinrabanshow Another Story tour, presented by SPEED DISK, which started on November 20th at Kawasaki Club FLEEZ and ended on December 14th at Esaka MUSE. The tour altogether hit seven stops. Also during this time a two-man concert tour with Sugar titled BLACK Sugar POT was scheduled for January.

2009 began with the three date BLACK Sugar POT two-man concert tour with Sugar in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. A memorial photobook of the tour was released later in February, it features opening act cocklobin. On February 14th 9GBO released their second mini-album Black rain. The band's first one-man concert live, called "Bright Garden", was performed on April 11th at Shibuya BOXX. All of its tickets were sold out before the concert. This was also their first filmed live for a DVD release. The footage was released later on July 25th as 20090411 Shibuya-Boxx live in Bright Garden.

Continuing the themes from "Bright Garden", 9GBO held their Bright Garden act II tour on May 2nd through May 17th, hitting four venues. The themes ended with the last concert on the tour. Spanning from June to August the band took part in events and live. In September they played two one-man concerts, the first at Niigata JUNKBOX mini on the 12th and the second at Shibuya O-WEST on the 21st.

Through November and December they performed more lives and ending with a one-man concert, effectively concluding 2009. 9GBO ceased live activities after these lives so they could record material for a new release. The material, their debut full-length album TANATOS, was released on March 24th, 2010. The album would reach #294 on the Oricon weekly charts, where it charted for a week.
