A cassette tape is a form of magnetic storage that was most popular in the 1980s and early 1990s, due largely to Sony's Walkman tape player. They are usually of low quality, however, they are useful for home recorders because of their economic price. The market share for the cassette has dropped with the advent of relatively cheap compact discs and compact disc recorders.
