Matsubara Yulia (松原ユリヤ, also written Matsubara Yuriya) is a member of Hello! Project as a member of Hello! Pro Kenshuusei. She first appeared as a finalist in the Hello! Project New Member Audition in 2017.

Profile

History

Matsubara Yulia attended lessons at the Toyosu Idol Star Gakuen children's dance and vocal program between December 2016 and October 2017, prior to joining Hello Pro Kenshuusei. Sometime in June 2017 she auditioned for the magazine Ciao Girl, later that year she participated in the "Hello! Project Shin Member Audition" and became a finalist. When it was announced that no winners would be chosen from the audition, she and several other finalists accepted an invitation to join Hello Pro Kenshuusei. They made their first live appearance and were officially introduced at the "Hello! Project Kenshuusei Happyoukai 2017 12gatsu ~Conti→New!~" concert on December 10, 2017.

While supervised by a manager, Matsubara competed in the first round of Nippon TV's Onna Geinin No.1 Ketteisen THE W comedy competition on September 29, 2018, though she failed to advance to the second round. The following year on May 4, 2019 she won the newly created Judges "Healing Award" for her performance of Juice=Juice's "SEXY SEXY" at the "Hello! Project Kenshuusei Happyoukai 2019 ~Haru no Koukai Jitsuryoku Shindan Test~" event. On July 26, 2020 at the "Hello! Project Kenshuusei Happyoukai 2020 ~Natsu no Koukai Jitsuryoku Shindan Test~" event Yulia received a special judges award, given by former ANGERME member Katsuta Rina, for her performance of ANGERME's "Akai Earphone".

  • Has a Japanese father and a Belarusian mother, and has been raised bilingually to speak both Japanese and Russian.
  • Has a younger sister; stated in her 2019 introduction video that she thought her baby sister would join Hello! Project in 10 years.
  • Was a finalist in the 2017 Hello! Project New Member Audition, where her number was #103. No finalists passed the audition.
  • Attended children's performance program Toyosu Idol Star Gakuen (豊洲☆アイドルスター学園) prior to joining Hello Pro Kenshuusei.
  • During the audition she performed the "Danson" (ダンソン) gag from the comedic duo Bambino, and later performed a version of it with former Hello! Project and °C-ute member Okai Chisato in the last episode of the audition webshow.
