Rum was part of the duo Heartsdales with her older sister Jewels. Although was born in Japan, she grew up in Yonkers, New York from 1982 to 1996. Having spent 14 years in New York, she mastered the English and Japanese languages. Rum was known for rapping and singing in the duo and also doing the more lighter-sounding chorus.
