SERIAL⇔NUMBER (シリアル) is currently a four member Japanese pop-rock band. They are an oshare-kei band signed with the independent label Faze Rush Records. Up until late 2009/10, each member had a designated color that was involved in costumes, promotional images, and jacket covers. Gothic†NUMBER is their alter-ego project.

On October 20th, a week before the release of their fourth studio album Kanjou Bunretsu, it was announced that Sasaki Jin would be the only member of the band, as the remaining members will be leaving after their December 27th live at Takadanobaba AREA.[1] After the live, it was announced that Sasaki planned to continue the band.[2] Soon after, a member audition took place, which ended in August of 2011, with four new members joining.[3]

Serial⇔NUMBER promoting "Hime Koi Number" (2005)

Serial⇔NUMBER was formed in April of 2005 with the line-up of: vocalist Sasaki Jin (ex-Inazuma), guitarist Shiyuu (ex-Malefice Dia), guitarist Kazune (ex-CureBLAST), and bassist Tama (ex-Silverhythm). They had a drummer, Kai (ex-SHEROCK), but he was only a live support drummer until he became an official member on March 5th, 2006. In June, the band had started activities in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. Their first live was at Takadanobaba AREA on July 24th, and during this their first demo "Hime Koi Number" was distributed.

Their next activity was a string of 10 lives, all at both Takadanobaba AREA and Shinjuku club HOLIDAY, starting on August 4th and ending on October 12th. The live at Takadanobaba AREA on September 6th was a part of a h'evn sponsored event. The next three lives is when they distributed their second demo "Sarabai☆", which was released in MD format. The lives were on three consecutive days, starting on October 22nd, and all were at Shinjuku club HOLIDAY.

Before their debut single release, the band performed four lives: the first on November 5th at Shinjuku club HOLIDAY, the second on the 9th at Takadanobaba AREA, the third on the 22nd at Ikebukuro CYBER, and the last on December 2nd also at Takadanobaba AREA. Serial⇔NUMBER's first single "Aoi Kiseki" was released on December 18th. They also played a live that day at Takadanobaba AREA and sold the premium edition of the single there. The end of the year was only two lives both at Shinjuku club HOLIDAY, on December 28th and 31st.

2006 began with a live on January 8th at Takadanobaba AREA. The rest of January were three more lives: two at Shibuya O-WEST on the 12th and 24th, with the second one being a part of a SPEED DISK records presents "Shinrabanshow Kakuritsu Hendou" event, and the last live at Takadanobaba AREA on the 22nd. February was also only five lives and events, beginning with a live on the 3rd at Shinjuku RUIDO K4. Two events took place on the 8th and the 13th; number one was another h'evn sponsored event at Takadanobaba AREA and number two was a S'CUBE sponsored event at Shinjuku HOLIDAY. The third live in Febraury, on the 24th, was at Shinjuku HOLIDAY. This was an important live as they created their alter-ego band Gothic†NUMBER then. This side project has dark gothic looks and a harder rock sound instead of colorful looks and a pop-rock sound. The last of this month was a live at Takadanobaba AREA on the 28th.

March started with two consecutive lives, on the 3rd and 4th. The first was a normal live at Takadanobaba AREA, and the second was a LOOP ASH records presents "LOOP★Fresh 2006" event at Shibuya O-WEST. It was at this event that their live support drummer Kai became an official member of the band. On the 19th they held a free small one-man concert at Harajuku RUIDO K4 titled "Hai Sai! Hai Sai! Chaabura Matsuri!! ~Tama Otanjoubi 1-nichi Maeyade! no Maki~". This one-man was meant to be a birthday celebration live for their bassist Tama, who was also leaving the band that day.
