THE ALBUM is the first Korean full-length album released by BLΛƆKPIИK. It was released in five versions: four physical CD editions and a limited LP edition. Each edition comes with a package box, a 96-page hardcover photobook, a postcard set of 4, a 2-page credits sheet, a 14-page lyrics booklet, two random photocards of 20 types, two random postcards of 20 types, one random sticker of 4 types, and a mounted photocard. The limited LP edition will only have 18,888 copies produced. The song "Lovesick Girls" was used as the lead track.
The album was reported to have sold 1,209,543 copies as of October 26, 2020, making BLACKPINK the first K-pop girl group to have a million-selling album. Approximately 871,355 copies were sold in Korea, while 139,300 copies were sold in the U.S. and Europe. The tally also includes the 18,888 limited edition LPs that were sold out early on.
