14-year-old actor Takasugi Mahiro will take on his first starring role in a movie called “Quartet!” directed by film and television producer Mimura Junichi. He was chosen for the part through an audition of approximately 300 actors.
Takasugi made his acting debut in August 2009 in the stage play “Every Little Thing.” He recently acted in the play “Jeanne d’Arc,” which starred Horikita Maki (22), and he has also had a few roles in film and television. He is managed by Spice Power, the male branch of Horikita’s agency Sweet Power.
In “Quartet!,” Takasugi plays a young boy with a prodigy-like talent for playing the violin. His family is about to fall apart, but they end up forming a classical quartet in an attempt to rebuild their bonds. Hosokawa Shigeki (39) and Tsuruta Mayu (40) will play the parents, while Goriki Ayame (18) will play the older sister.
Takasugi is currently undergoing special training for the violin. Shooting will start in March, and the city of Urayasu in Chiba is cooperating by providing filming locations and letting the cast perform at local events.
Theatrical release is planned for this coming winter.
