"MATERIAL WORLD" is the 18th single released by Sowelu and it is her last single released under Sony Music Entertainment's DefSTAR Records. Unlike all of Sowelu's previous releases this song was an electropop dance song instead of an R&B influenced track. The single was produced by Takahashi Taku from m-flo, and it was the lead in single to Sowelu's Sowelu THE BEST 2002-2009. The title track was used as the theme song to the film Tsumi to Kabatsu to Ka.
The single reached #106 on the weekly Oricon chart, and only stayed on the chart for one week, selling 909 copies.
