Black Cherry is Koda Kumi's 5th original album (though her 7th in total). This is her first release after her two best collections. Much like the two best collections before it, this album comes in three editions; a CD only, a CD+DVD and a CD+2DVD version. The first DVD includes all of Koda Kumi's recent PVs (except for Futari de..., which does not feature on the album), whereas the second features a DVD only drama called Cherry Girl, featuring Koda Kumi in her first acting role as a main character. This drama was produced by the team who created the drama Busu no Hitomi ni Koishiteru (the drama for which Koi no Tsubomi was the theme song for). On top of all this, the first press versions of these albums will feature three bonus tracks, an access code to a special Koda Kumi website, the chance to win original Koda Kumi "Black Cherry" goods (only if purchased alongside the Cherry Girl / Unmei single) and a bonus making feature on the PV DVD. The track Milk Tea is Koda's first track that she has composed herself to be released. This album claimed the number one spot for the week the first day of its release. Black Cherry was the #1 selling album of the year for 3 months until it was surpassed by Mr.Children's HOME.
