Jang Nara (장나라) is a Korean Pop singer and actress. In addition to releasing albums both in Korea and in China, she has appeared on several popular dramas, and films.

Information

As a child, Jang made her acting debut appearing with her father in the play, Les Misérables, while still a student in elementary school. She went on to become an model in various commercials and ad campaigns while still in high school.

In March of 2000, she entered Chung-Ang University's theater department. Shortly after she made her singing debut, releasing her first album, First Story, in 2001. The first single, "Burying My Face In Tears", was a moderate success and the album went on to sell over 300,000 copies.

2001 also saw Jang Nara continuing her acting career. She appeared on the MBC drama New Nonstop along with other then up and coming young stars including Park Kyung Lim and Yang Dong Gun. The following year she appeared with Jang Hyuk in the record breaking SBS television drama, Successful Story of a Bright Girl, which recorded some of the highest audience ratings in Korea.

In recent years, she has become very popular in China and Taiwan. In 2005 she starred in a drama in China, called My Bratty Princess. Being the lead actress, she attracted much affection from Chinese speaking fans. She has also released two Chinese language albums. Her first Chinese album, Yī Zhāng, featured previously released songs from her Korean albums translated into Chinese. This album proved to be a huge success in China and other countries in Asia.

The Chinese versions of "Sweet Dream", "It's Probably Love" and "I'm After All A Woman" (frequently cited as "I'm a Woman Too") become very popular on radio throughout Asia. She performed many concerts in China, often singing both Korean and Chinese songs. Later in 2005 she released another Chinese album, Gōngfu.

Jang also does some charity work, such as sending food to children in North Korea. She has also done work with the Family Health International organization.
