RuRu was a member of the Hello! Project group Taiyo to Ciscomoon from 1999 to 2000. Originally from China, during this time she became a Japanese citizen and Tsunku, producer of Hello! Project, gave her the name Honda Ruru (本多ルル). In 2000 she was part of the Hello! Project shuffle unit Kiiro 5.
After she left Taiyo to Ciscomoon, she returned to China and released three solo albums.
In 2007, she joined avex and released her first Japanese cover album.
