"WHATEVER" is the sixth single released by Hamasaki Ayumi. This is Ayumi's first single to have more of and electronica sound. The single reached #5 on the Oricon charts and stayed on the charts for a total of nine weeks. During the first week of sales the single sold 70,940 copies, and since then has sold a total of 189,610 copies.
The single was later re-released on 2001.02.28 in the 12cm format with new remixes. The single reached #28 on the Oricon charts and stayed on the charts for a total of three weeks.

Music Video
The music video was directed by Wataru Takeishi (who also directed Ayumi's first couple videos) and set to "WHATEVER version M". The video features Ayumi sitting in a chair in a room which is filling with water. It switches between scenes of an angel dressed in white walking through a junk yard, who at the end of the video is shown hanging on barbwire. At the end of the video it also shows Ayumi trapped inside a cage covered with barbwire.
