Information

f(x) was announced as a new girl group by SM on August 2009. On the name of the group, SM has stated: The 'x' in f(x) is a variable, and if it changes, the result will be different. The 'f' stands for 'flower', and the 'x' stands for the female chromosome 'xx'. And like a flower, they will blossom and become hot icons to represent Asia as the top "Asian Pop Dance Group.". One of the considered names for f(x) was WHITE ANGELS. The group has been mistakenly called as the "female SHINee" by some netizens, when that title was given (by SM) to another five-person girlgroup called CRYSTAL, which will debut soon.

Their debut song "Lachata" (a made-up word) was digitally released on August 31 2009. The members' first showcase was held on September 2 2009, and the MV was released on the same date. During the showcase, a song called "Mr. Boogie" (choreographed by Rino Nakasone) was performed. There are plans of expanding the group to other Asian countries.
