DAHLIA (Pop artist)

DAHLIA is a Japanese Pop artist.

Profile

  • Name: Harmoni Chinen (DAHLIA)
  • Birth Place: Hawaii
  • Fun Fact: Graduated from same high school as Angela Aki but three years later.

Biography

Not much is known about DAHLIA. She is an Okinawan-American singer, recruited by X JAPAN's own YOSHIKI. Her stage name was suggested by YOSHIKI, most likely as a reference to the album Dahlia that he produced during the reign of X JAPAN. Born in America, DAHLIA speaks little Japanese, but wants to become fluent someday. She has no qualms about singing in Japanese, though.

As of 2006, DAHLIA is 25 years old. She graduated from high school in 1999. DAHLIA's brother is jazz journalist Nate Chinen, whose work has appeared in JazzTimes magazine. DAHLIA went to University of Southern California (USC).

DAHLIA has released one single thus far, I'll be your love (2003.10.29), a ballad written and composed by YOSHIKI. It was chosen to be the theme of Aichi's Expo 2005. She has stated that she and YOSHIKI are working on an album that is a compilation of Japanese and English lyrics. DAHLIA actually performed on a Violet UK song called "Blue and Blind" and she was (and maybe still is) a member of Violet UK but her solo album is her main concern.
