English Teachers (often stylized as en・glish teach・ers) is a web series directed by Anthony Gilmore. The series revolves around a group of foreign English teachers at the Japanese school, Be Yes!. The series stars well known Japanese working American actors Ananda Jacobs and Jonathan Sherr. The series debuted September 18th 2010, and its first season is currently still in production and being shot in Nagoya. The characters in the show are based on actual people Gilmore has meet through his own English teaching experiences at language schools in both Japan and South Korea [1].

Synopsis

Be Yes! is an school of English and they pride themselves on teaching their students the language. The school is run by the President Sawaguchi and the head of the English teachers Mark Baker. The story follows Tom Kellerman, an American from Kansas, whom has recently come to Japan to teach English. After arriving in Japan Kellerman signs a one-year contract at the Be Yes! school of English. Not long after Kellerman joins the English staff, they are joined another teacher named Jodie. It is not long after the two additions to the staff that students begain pulling out of the school to enroll at the rival school Gova. Because of their loss of students, the school is close to shutting down. This group of teachers then tries their best to keep the school afloat.

Tom Kellerman
Played by Jonathan Sherr
Tom is fresh face with to the EFL world. He was born and raised in Kansas. Tom came to Japan for a change of pace and to explore life. His parents were both teachers, so becoming a teacher was some-what pre-installed in him. He also seems to be romanticaly interested in his fellow teacher, Jodie.
Jody
Played by Ananda Jacobs
Jodie gre up in a small in Oregon. She has always "stood out as a free thinker, wise beyond her years. Unaffected by trends, or the status quo, Jody is most at home reading to children in her class, coaxing a lilting melody from a beat up guitar, or eating a solitary lunch at the Nagoya castle.[2]"
Mark Baker
Played by Michael Kruse
Is the head of the English teachers at Be Yes! and he has been teaching there for 15 years. He is originally from London, England.
Neville Abernathy
Played by Michael Walker
Neville was born and raised in Australia. When he was young he dreamed of going to Japan to meet his idol, Bruce Lee, as no one had the heart to tell him that Bruce Lee didn't live there (or that Bruce Lee was a Chinese-American). "Neville made a pilgrimage to Nagoya where he quickly immersed himself in the Japanese culture and martial arts. Though he was considered an "uncoordinated" and "comical" martial arts student, there was no denying his spirit. This, along with his devotion to Buddhist philosophy, led Neville to a career in education.[2]" He has been teaching in Japan for two years.
Ashley Reynolds
Played by Lindsay Sakamoto
Ashley is from San Dusky, Ohio. Ashley is said to have a "fierce ambition [that] is matched only by her staunch feminist ideals. Receiving two degrees from Brown University, Ashley’s position at the Be Yes! School of English was a preemptive career move made for her by her father in an attempt to instill some much needed people skills.[2]"
Sawaguchi
Played by Shibata Chiaki
Sawaguchi was raised in a traditional Japanese home. She was determined not to be hindered by Japan's male dominated culture, Sawaguchi dedicated herself to her studies which later blossomed into a career in school administration.[2]"

English Teachers has currently been scheduled for an eight episode season. These episodes are meant to be released every two weeks.
