Kaolinite

Kaolinite is a villain from the anime/manga/musical series Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. She appears in the third part (Sailor Moon S) only.

Character Profile

Behind the Name

Kaolinite's name comes from the mineral of the same name. Kaolinite is a clay mineral that is very soft. It's made up of silicate layers that are bonded to aluminum oxide and hydroxide layers. It is often white in color and is often known as china clay or kaolin (高岭土). Due to weathering, Kaolinite found in nature is often a mixture of orange, red and pink color. Sometimes its layers can be yellowish or light orangish in color. The mineral is often mined all parts of the world and is used in cosmetics, clay, bricks, medicine, paper and toothpaste. It was first documented as a mineral in 1867 in the Jari River basin, which is in Brazil. Aside from just being a mineral it has its own group among the minerals known as "The Kaolinite Group". Three minerals under this are Kaolinite, Dickite, and Nacrite.

Personality

Kaolinite oftentimes comes off as cold and uncaring in the anime. The only time she ever really shows her soft side is when she's around the professor, whom she is very loyal and dedicated to. However her dedication often gets in the line of her work, for on several ocassions she would get jealous of Professor Tomoe praising or giving a job to one of the other Witches 5. In the manga this is not apparent and Kaolinite has the position of Magus (a mage or sorceress). She is very powerful and does not seem to have any bitter feelings toward the Witches 5. She also doesn't seem to have feelings toward the Professor. In both versions however, she is very compeitive and hardworking towards the professor's and Pharoh 90's goal.

Different Forms

Throughout the season (anime and manga), Kaolinite appears in two different forms:

  • Kaolinite / "Ms. Kaori":

This is Kaolinite's form for when she is out in the public eye. She often wears normal yet revealing looking clothes and most often poses as an everyday person. In the anime she pretends to be a shoes clerk while in the manga she poses as a principal and the house assistant (under the name of Kuromine Kaori) of the Mugen Academy. Kaorinite does not go in disguise often in the anime or manga though. Infact the outfit she wears the most in the anime is based off her human looking manga outfit. In her normal form she watches over the professor's daughter Tomoe Hotaru and serves as a usual assistant to him. Her being an assistant is seen more often in the anime however then in the manga.

  • Kaolinite / Magus:

In the manga, Kaolinite is mostly regarded as "Magus" or "Magus Kaolinite". This is her position among the Death Busters and she often seen using sorcery to watch the senshi or to attack them. In the anime however, she never has this title and only wears the magus outfit after the Professor asks her to come back into the field. She however really seen as being more powerful then before her magus state. As magus in the manga, the witchess 5 look up to her with great respect and wish to have her position. Kaolinite as magus is seen to be more powerful in the manga then in the anime due to her sorcery but also her communication with the Pharoh and being in posession of the Taion crystal for some of the time.

Appearences

  • Kaolinite / Kuromine Kaori

These outfits are very similar. Kaolinite wears a very small red dress with a very low neckline so as to show off her cleavage. In the manga, Kaolinite wears something similar to a scarf or small tied sweater around her neck. In the initial sketch, it appears see-through. Kaolinite wears red high heels and in the anime, she has a gold bracelet on her left wrist. When Kaolinite comes back as an assistant (in the home) for Professor Tomoe she wears the exact same outfit but in a dark purple.

  • "Ms. Kaori"

In the Materials collection, there is a small sketch of Kaolinite in a lab coat and she's labeled as "Ms. Kaori". In the anime it is seen that the lab coat is just simply worn over her red dress. However in her intial sketches it mentions a possible mini skirt and once again she is in high heels.

  • Magus Kaolinite

Kaolinite's manga and temporary anime outfit. Its mostly black and it shows off her cleavage a bit again. The dress cuts off a bit around the hips and there is big slit on the side, with the rest of the dress only covering her front and back. She wears grey tights and black high heeled boots. Her dress has quite a big collar and parts of her arms show near the shoulders. Her sleeves go all the way down to her wrists and fan out a little. She wears a lot of jewelry around her neck.
