"Soba ni Iru ne" is the second single released by Aoyama Thelma. The main track is a answer to SoulJa's Koko ni Iru yo, and it was used as the Start! DoCoMo CM, while the b-side "My dear friend" was used as the ending theme to anime Shion no Ou and the opening to television show Ryuuha-R. The original song and the answer, are both similar, but "Soba ni Iru" proved to be more popular than SoulJa's version by reaching #1 on Oricon charts in it second week. As the single sold 464,835 copies in 2008 during its 46 weeks chart run, it was the 7th best selling single in 2008. In total, it sold 465,186 copies. In September 2008, the Guinness World Records certified the song as the best selling download single in Japan. It was also the best-selling download single on the iTunes Store 2008 yearly charts in Japan. The single reached first spot on COUNTDOWN TV ranking for three months in a row. According to the story of both singers they met at the karaoke bar and became friends. They decided to record a song together, and that's how Koko ni Iru yo was made.
