The members of Crying Nut had known each other since pre-school, and while in high school first got together as a band. When the group first formed they went through a string of band names including "Subway Spiders," "Spandax," and "Morning Glory," before finally deciding on Crying Nut. The band's name originated while the band members were in high school, and spent their bus fare on walnut cookies and therefore had to walk home.

After entering college in 1995, the group began playing at clubs in Seoul, most notablely Drug. Their 1998 debut album sold over 100,000 copies, setting a new record for South Korean independent rock albums. Their 1999 sophomore collection, [[Circus Magic Yoorangdan]] and their third offering, 하수연가 in 2001, both topped the 100,000 mark. In December 2002, they released their fourth studio album, 고물라디오.

Information

The members of Crying Nut had known each other since pre-school, and while in high school first got together as a band. When the group first formed they went through a string of band names including "Subway Spiders," "Spandax," and "Morning Glory," before finally deciding on Crying Nut. The band's name originated while the band members were in high school, and spent their bus fare on walnut cookies and therefore had to walk home.

After entering college in 1995, the group began playing at clubs in Seoul, most notably Drug. Their 1998 debut album sold over 100,000 copies, setting a new record for South Korean independent rock albums. Their 1999 album Circus Magic Yoorangdan and their third offering, Hasuyeonga in 2001, both topped the 100,000 mark. In December 2002, they released their fourth studio album, Gomulladio.

In 2003, however, after their members were drafted into the two year mandatory service, the group went on hiatus. The group completed their service in 2005, and in July of 2006 they released their fifth full length studio album, OK Mokjangui Jeotso.
