College Cosmos (カレッジ・コスモス) is a Japanese pop idol group formed by Space Craft Group and Up-Front Group. The group is made up of female college students, from which their name is partially derived, with cosmos signifying the harmonious order of the universe as well as the akizakura, or cosmos, flower (秋桜), together forming a unit that combines both beauty and intelligence.
The group was formed with the idea of moving away from the present day "idol" image (The Japanese word for idol, "guuzou" (偶像), has a cult-like or religious worship connotation), forgoing the notorious "love-ban" rule, and aims to become known as an intellectual group of idols.
