Profile
Information
aki-la began performing at metropolitan club events at the age of 15. It was at one of these events that she met LIKA, a producer at an indies record label in Los Angeles that was temporarily in Japan. She was signed with the label, CORNER RECORDS, and subsequently relocated to Los Angeles for her career. LIKA wanted aki-la's music to be the current "gangsta rap style" without overdoing it, and rapper Ice T (along with friends) was brought in as the brains of the production. aki-la began to learn about African-American culture in Los Angeles; her goal being to cross the wall of difference. In doing so, she gained new friends, support, and began to make her first disc.
In 2001 aki-la met American rapper Snoop Dogg, and the two collaborated for her debut single "Freak da Club". Two years later, aki-la made her major debut.
