A record is an analog recording, usually of music, recorded onto an oil-based disc (often called a phonograph record, a vinyl, a record, or by their size or speed). Records must be played at various speeds, as well, giving them the monikers of either LP (long-play) or EP (extended play).

Sizes

The record size is the record's diameter in inches. While there is a huge variety of sizes, some of the most common are listed below:

  • 7"
  • 10"
  • 12"

Speeds

Records are also played at various speeds, measured in revolutions per minute (RPM). Most often they are one of the following:

  • 33 1/3 RPM
  • 45 RPM
