DVD is an optical disc storage media format that can be used for playback of movies with high video and sound quality or for storing data.

A Region 2 DVD means that it is restricted to be played on DVD players bought in The Middle East, Europe, Egypt, Greenland, Japan, Lesotho, South Africa and Swaziland. Though there are region free DVD players that will play DVDs from any region.

Most Japanese DVD's will be Region 2, though occasionally there are DVD's that are Region 0 or All Region, which means they do not have a region restrictive code.
