Information

The Beginning

Born on June 26 1984 Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture, Emi was involved with a brass band at a young age. In the year 2005 she went to Canada for language studies. It was there when she truly fell in love with music, especially Jazz music. When she came home from Canada in the year 2006 she began studying Jazz music. In April 2007 she participated in a music audition and won the MSN Special Jury Prize. She then was signed a contract with the Nancle Label and so released her first limited single Negai no Sora on May 15, 2007 under a stage name タワタエミ (TAWATA EMI). The single reached #1 on the Indies charts. The single sold out and got the attention of a bigger label named AMUSE. They created a new label Techesko to which Emi Tawata is sgned to now. She then covered Antonio Carlos Jobim's song This Happy Madness and the song "Into You" from DJ Kawasaki (featuring Emi Tawata) hit the floor. "Into You" became quite popular on Itunes that it even got a special prize. This increased her popularity quite qickly. Because she was going to tour a lot in the country she composed her own band named "Tawada Emi & The Soul Infinity". Her debut mini-album ∞Infinity∞ was released on April 23, 2008 and reached the #110 spot on the Oricon charts.

This mini-album would be promoted during her Tour named Emi Tawata & The Soul Infinity: Sweet Soul Tour 2009. Along with this mini-album came the collaboration between the popular apparel brand Soulsmania. Soulsmania made some T-shirts promoting Emi Tawata and her band. The mini-album Sweet Soul Love was released on March 18, 2009 and reached #284 on the Oricon charts.

Two months later on 12 May, Emi's official website announced tha a first Maxi single would be released on the 24th of June. The leading song of the single named Toki no Sora woudl serve as an ending song from the quiz show "Sekai fushigi Hakken" and theme song for the roadshow movie "Chikujou se Yo". Dispite the promotion, the single failed to chart at the Oricon charts. On 22 August Emi announced in her blog that she would release her very first full-length album named SINGS along with another Maxi-single named Namida no Oto on the 4th of November. The single again failed to chart on the Oricon charts. The album however charted at the #111 place on the Oricon charts, selling about 1,500 copies in it's first week. In January 2010, she began touring throughout the country with her tour named "Emi Tawata & The Soul Infinity: Sings of Souls live 2010".
