Tokyo is the capital of Japan, as well as its largest city. It was known as EDo until the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate.

Japan-Guide provides good information on the city, touching on basic information as well as providing links to attractions. See also Tokyo travel guide at Wikitravel.

As of October 1, 2003 the population of Tokyo was estimated to be 12,369,000, or about 10% of Japan's total population, the largest population of any of the 47 prefectures.

Tokyo is the world's most populous urban agglomeration, with an estimated population of over 13 million. [1]
