Utada Hikaru SINGLE COLLECTION VOL.1 is Utada Hikaru's fourth album, which is her first single collection. Songs were digitally remastered for the album, and are set out chronologically. This album was not only #1 on Oricon charts, but was the first album by an Asian artist to reach #1 on global charts (and stayed on the charts for six weeks). In total, the album sold 2,562,000 units in Japan. For the final global charts of 2004, this album reached to #28.
The album is also listed on world charts as being the #6 album in terms of first week sales (which totalled 1,403,102 copies). This album became the #1 album of 2004 in Japan.
The extremely high sales were amazing, as the singles collection had absolutely no new tracks or pictures in it, with the booklet just having a plain blue/white on gold theme. The only exclusive things that appear on the CD/in the booklet is that Utada wrote 'Shishunki' (思春期; puberty) on page one with a blue fountain pen, and the message on the cover.
The singles collection 'royal design' front cover was carried on with the Korean EMI release of 1998-2005 All For You: UH Premium Single Box Set.
