Sakae Maiko (榮舞子) or just Maiko (舞衣子, まいこ) is Japanese pop/rock singer/songwriter/bassist. Maiko made her music debut back in 1999 with the Japanese pop group ZONE, and was later became the band's bassist. After a string of hits the group dissolved in 2005. In 2006 Maiko re-emerged as the lead singer as well as one of the two bassists to the six-piece Japanese pop/rock band MARIA.

Information

As a child Maiko was enrolled in the child performing arts school, Studio RunTime. When an auditions came up in 1997 for a chance to be in a new Japanese pop group Maiko jumped at the chance. In 1998 she was one of the four finalists members along with Mizuho, Takayo, and Miyu.

The group as the dance-pop group ZONE in 1999 with the single "believe in love". After being signed to Sony in 2000, the girls were all taught to play instruments, and made their major label debut in 2001 with the single, "GOOD DAYS". During the her time with the group they spawned several hits before dissolving in 2005. While in ZONE, Maiko only sang two solo tracks. The songs "Sae Zuri" (Bird Chirping) and "Like".

During 2005, Maiko did a short stint with the Studio RunTime group BON'Z. Since then she has joined the six piece all girl band, MARIA. The group debuted in 2006 with the single "Chiisa na Uta". Maiko has written the lyrics for both tracks on their "Chiisa na Uta" single.

Maiko is also a radio personality who got her first radio show back in 2004. Nowadays she and the other members of MARIA have a radio show.
