SNH48 Group

SNH48 Group is the collective term referring to SNH48 and its sister groups across mainland China.

The SNH48 Group currently consists of four idol groups (SNH48, BEJ48, GNZ48, CKG48) and one trainee group (IDOLS Ft). The group is owned by Chinese companies NineStyle and STAR48.

History

In 2012, Japanese renowned producer Akimoto Yasushi produced the idol group SNH48 (based in Shanghai, China) as an overseas sister group of AKB48 and the AKB48 Group. AKB48 members Suzuki Mariya and Miyazawa Sae were transferred to SNH48 in August 2012 to debut alongside the first-generation members, who were announced in October 2012.

In June 2016, it was announced that SNH48 would depart from the AKB48 Group following contract violations. Prior to the announcement, SNH48 announced the formation of BEJ48 (based in Beijing, China) and GNZ48 (based in Guangzhou, China), two sister groups that the AKB48 Group management were not familiarized with. SNH48 management also announced plans to release original music and form new sister groups, declaring themselves an independent entity from the AKB48 Group. Following the group departure, Suzuki Mariya's kenninship with SNH48 was revoked and she returned to AKB48.

In 2017, SHY48 (based in Shenyang, China) and CKG48 (based in Chongqing (Chungking), China) were launched as new sister groups. A fifth sister group CGT48 (based in Chengdu (Chengtu), China) was also scheduled for debut, but was shortly cancelled.

In January 2019, SNH48 Group held their first group shuffle, resulting in significant changes to the group line-up. SHY48, CKG48, and SNH48 Team FT were disbanded. Members from these groups were transferred to SNH48, BEJ48, or GNZ48, while other members were transferred to the newly-formed IDOLS Ft, an internet-based idol group. CKG48 was reinstated two months later with a new lineup.
