"The new song diverges sharply from CL’s image as one of South Korea’s most prominent female rappers and eschews her typical aggressive style. Referencing drugs and liquor liberally while roaming around New York City, this isn’t the same CL that K-pop fans are used to. Built for listening to on a hazy summer day, “Lifted” takes a step back from CL’s typical raps, aside from a quick bit at the beginning of the song. Instead, “Lifted” favors a tropical sound with a heavy beat that draws on ‘90s east coast hip-hop." Information

"LIFTED" is the debut American digital single released by CL. Many of the lines in the song are taken from Wu-Tang Clan's 1993 hip-hop classic "Method Man"; Including the opener "Hey, you, get off my cloud, You don't know me and you don't know my style" along with the chorus of the song. The term "Lifted" means to get high, usually associated with marijuana inhalation.

"The new song diverges sharply from CL’s image as one of South Korea’s most prominent female rappers and eschews her typical aggressive style. Referencing drugs and liquor liberally while roaming around New York City, this isn’t the same CL that K-pop fans are used to. Instead, “Lifted” favors a tropical sound with a heavy beat that draws on ‘90s east coast hip-hop." K-Pop fans flooded Twitter after the release torn between praising CL and denouncing her for changing her style to appeal to American audiences.[1]

The single reached #94 on the Billboard's Hot 100 Chart for the week of October 22, 2016.
