They debuted as 5-member group MINX in 2014 but re-debuted as Dreamcatcher with two additional members in early 2017 with the single "Akmong", which was to be their first in a "Nightmare"-themed series. The group released their first mini-album titled Prequel in July, which debuted at #5 on the Billboard World Albums Chart and peaked at #1 on the US iTunes K-Pop Top 100 Chart. At the end of the year following a sold out world tour, Dreamcatcher received critical acclaim from music critics worldwide for their unique sound that incorporated influences of rock and metal music. Their song "Chase Me" was ranked #19 on Billboard's Best K-Pop Songs of 2017: Critics' Picks. Subsequently, Dreamcatcher was listed #3 on Billboard's Best New K-Pop Acts in 2017.
