Information
Eto Rie was born to a Japanese father and a Chinese mother. From when she was eight years old, she moved to Austria. She continued to live and study there; she even studied to become an interpreter at The University of Vienna. However, while she was studying there she was scouted by the East West Japan music company of Japan.
Rie debuted under the label in 1994; releasing her debut single "Tenshi no Bishou". The single reached #39 on the charts (being her highest position she ever reached). She would continue to release music with East West Japan until she left in 1997. She would later change to three different labels; first Victor in 1998 when she released French Connection, the indies label Under Flower Records for her High & low ep and finally Universal for her 2:00AM or later album release. These two releases, instead of being released under her own name, were released under the pseudonym 'amber. In fact, her "High & low ep" was sung solely in English.
Interestingly, Rie did not limit herself to singing in just Japanese and English; like most Japanese artists do. Rie also sung in German, French and Chinese. Rie is also known as a TV personality, where she can be seen on SHOWBIZ COUNTDOWN (Sun 24:00~, TV Tokyo).
Rie later became a songwriter for various artists, such as Fujii Fumiya, Fujii Naoyuki and Denki Groove. Rie has written a number of songs for Tsuchiya Anna (the songs "Ecstasy", "In My Hands", "Jane" and co-wrote "Grooving Beating" with Anna). Rie even wrote four songs for Anna during her time in Spin Aqua ("Don't need it", "Sugar Candy", "Sunshine" and "Unchained").
