S.H.E is a popular Taiwanese girl group who debuted in 2001 under the label of Avex Trax. Their popularity has spread in various parts of Asia. S.H.E is derived from the first letter of their English names (Selina, Hebe, and Ella).

Information

S.H.E was formed through an audition in 2000 held by HIM International Music called "'Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest". Almost 1000 hopefuls auditioned for the contest but only seven were selected. These seven went through a second round of auditions, but just three were chosen and then given a contract. Thus, S.H.E was born.

HIM Management thought their difference in looks and personalities might give a "fresh" idea for mainstream Taiwanese pop, since there had been no girl group like this before. The three girls had recorded separately since the audition, but HIM decided to place them in a same room in a dormitory together to build and strengthen their bonds. Soon all three members had grown close and have become one of the best selling Taiwanese girl groups to date.

Style

They have experimented with different types of styles throughout their career. They started off as a cutesy-like pop band but Genesis showed much maturity in the ballads. Super Star was mainly dominated by the rock or pop-rock genre, while in mid 2005 they were more into the urban style like hip hop and R&B. Play featured mainly bubblegum-influenced cutesy pop like in their debut albums.
