Information
Ogawa Tomoko was born in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Precture on January 26, 1949. When she was a child, her family moved to Kitaku, Tokyo and she attended the Kitaku Public Prince Elementary School with Haneda Kentaro. She also studied ballet while being part of the Toei Young Actor's Group. She made her acting debut in 1960 by appearing in the NTV dorama Mama Chotto Kite.
Ogawa made her film debut in 1965, appearing in the film Akuma no You na Suteki na Yakko. Two years later, she won the Rookie of the Year Award for her role in the movie Oooku (Maruhi) Monogatari. However, that same year, her contract with Toei Films expired after she graduated from high school. Ogawa decided to pursue a singing career and released her first single, "Yuube no Himitsu", in 1968. The single was a hit, charting #1 on the weekly Oricon charts.
In 1970, Ogawa Tomoko started her acting career up once more. Her first comeback role was in 1971 in the film Wakare no Shi. She starred in various movies and films during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. One of her most famous roles was in the 1983 dorama Kinyoubi no Tsuma-tachi e as the character Murakoshi Eiko. She is also famous for her role in the 1993 dorama Inochi Sasaete ~Mama, Papa wa AIDS na no?, which she won an award at the annual Nihon Minkan Housou Renmei Yuushuushou.
As part of the religion Happy Science, Ogawa Tomoko with the writer Kageyama Tamio protested against the publisher Kodansha and their magazine FRIDAY in 1993. Ogawa and many others demanded Kodansha to stop publishing a issue of FRIDAY as it had an article against Happy Science.[1] Their protests were successful as Kodansha delayed the issue and pulled the article in question.
Ogawa married actor Hayashi Yoichi in 1977 but later divorced. She is currently married to the art critic Ito Junji.
