milet promoting us (2019)

milet

milet (ミレイ) is a Japanese pop singer-songwriter under SME Records. She made her debut on March 6, 2019 with her first EP inside you EP, with the lead track "inside you" being used as the opening theme for the drama QUEEN.

milet has been familiar with classical music since childhood, and started listening to Western music such as Sigur Rós and Björk as well as the bands BOOM BOOM SATELLITES and ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION under the influence of her older brother. She played the flute since elementary school and was enthusiastic about aiming to attend a music university. At the same time she was interested in film music, and eventually the university she chose was a place where she could study video.

Her music is characterized by songwriting that uses English and Japanese by making use of the experience of studying abroad in Canada during her adolescence. When writing lyrics, she starts with lyrics in English, and the Japanese lyrics are made to match.

Beginning in 2017, milet began to devote her time to music, and her debut was decided after a person acquainted with Sony Music listened to a demo tape where she sang cover songs with a friend. The production of original songs was encouraged, and in 2018, she began writing songs in session format with Ryosuke "Dr.R" Sakai.

Her third mini-album, us, is released this week on August 28th.
